Stampin' Up! Portfolio II Book I * Good
$24.99, 2000, Stampin' Up!

Stampin' Up! has come out with the first book of four in a second portfolio of samples and project instructions. Unfortunately I found the first volume of Portfolio II disappointing. As an advanced stamper, I didn't see much that I haven't seen before in the way of projects. While it does have project ideas and instructions that are not in the Portfolio I, they are not especially new to the stamping scene. The samples are very nice, but not really more impressive than the samples in the 1999-2000 catalog (which by the way is $8 as opposed to $24.99). I felt as though they included just a quarter of their "new" ideas in the first volume in order to spread them out over the four volumes of Portfolio II.

On the other hand, I like the format of this portfolio much better than that of Portfolio I. It is 10" x 10", spiral bound and comes with a box for storing volume one along with the future three volumes. It will lay flat when open, takes up much less work space than Portfolio I, and will fit on a book shelf. Patterns and instructions are included for projects that require them as in Portfolio I. As usual, you'll find unique samples to give you ideas for using the Stampin' Up! stamps you already have and inspire you to collect more.

There are about 72 pages of samples with approximately 3 samples per page. Some of the projects included are: snow shaker paperweight, fan tree ornament, stamping on velvet, Jiffy Pop popcorn gift, knit hat shaped card, note card set and holder, gift box template, bookmark card, standup/pop-up card, folded shirt card, wax paper resist background, pyramid box template, plastic glove filled goody bag, purse card, scrapbooking pages and various non-paper projects.

This book will probably be loved by beginner and intermediate stampers, but considered unimpressing to advanced stampers. I have to admit though that I still plan to buy the rest of the books in Portfolio II when they come out in order to complete my set and to see what they offer.
