Toby Ichniowski is a soprano from Baltimore, Maryland, who completed their undergraduate degree in voice performance at Towson University.  Their experience in opera performance includes playing the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus, Rose in Ruddigore, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, among others.  Their experience with stagecraft goes beyond performance, as they have also played the role of props manager and stage manager in several productions.  They are currently attending Temple University in pursuit of their Master’s degree in Vocal Performance.

In 2024, Toby Ichniowski started their graduate studies at Temple University, Boyer School of Music and Dance, where they were cast as cover for Le Prince in Cendrillon and as Zerlina in Don Giovanni.  They have also performed in scenes from Breaking the Waves as Bess, Idomeneo as Ilia, and Postcard from Morocco as Lady with a Cake Box.  

From 2019-2024, Mx. Ichniowski attended Towson University, where they were awarded the Voice Talent Award (2023), placed first and second in the Sidney-Liebermann Scholarship competition (2021 and 2022), and placed second in the Peggy Friedmann-Gordon Scholarship Competition (2020).  As part of Towson University’s Music for the Stage, they played the roles of Fanny in Le cambiale di matrimonio and Adele in Die Fledermaus, in addition to performing as Adele in scenes from Die Fledermaus and Frasquita in a scene from Carmen.  They also had the opportunity to play Flute and First Fairy in a double cast in the regional premiere A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Michael Ching.  Beyond Towson University, Toby was also cast as the cover for Aline in The Sorcerer and as Rose Maybud in Ruddigore at Victorian Lyric Opera Company (VLOC).They were chosen to participate in masterclasses with Frederica von Stade, Jay White and Shereen Ahmed.  They performed their undergraduate Senior Recital in May of 2023, featuring oratorio repertoire by Johann Sebastian Bach, Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber, and songs by Cécile Chaminade and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  They went on to graduate from Towson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance.

Toby’s experience with technical theater started in 2022 when they participated in an internship program with Opera Baltimore and OperaDelaware, working alongside several other student interns to go behind the scenes of the professional joint production of La traviata to help with props during tech week and the run of the show.  In 2023, Toby returned to Opera Baltimore and Opera Delaware, working as Props Coordinator for Rigoletto, and went on to be Assistant Stage Manager for Opera Maryland’s scenes concert.
